Shifnal Junior Section
Shifnal Juniors is a very important section at our Golf Club, after all they are our future and we are very proud to have been awarded Golf Mark status.
Junior Coaching is provided by our Professional, Neil Allsebrook.
The last block of small group coaching took place in October. These coaching sessions were provided at no charge to junior members. Coaching covered putting, chipping, bunker play and iron shots. Juniors are now being encouraged to play, when the weather permits, during the autumn and winter and submit cards to gain or improve their handicaps. Juniors may contact the Junior Organiser for help with supervised play, if required.
The next block of group coaching will start on March 1st next year. Coaching will be in small groups, and will again be provided at no charge to juniors. The costs of coaching, for these specific skills sessions, are being covered by a Junior Development Grant from England Golf plus matched funding from Shifnal Golf Club funds.
Non-members are welcome to come to a maximum of 3 sessions, at no charge, before deciding to join the junior section. Cost depends on the age of the player ( please see subscriptions section for full details of costs ).
Clubs, if needed, balls etc. are provided for all coaching sessions, free of charge. The Professional can advise on suitable clubs to purchase for juniors.
For junior players with CONGU handicaps, there are Medal and Stableford competitions every month from April to October, plus the Junior Open and Club Championships. The juniors also play against the senior men and in the Millennium Bowl against other clubs.
Boys with a CONGU handicap of 28 or less, and girls with a CONGU handicap of 36 or less, can play in the adult competitions ( see Club diary for exceptions ).
There is also a Junior Handicap League played against Patshull Park, Horsehay and Bridgnorth clubs ( see details and photos on next page ).
