The English Mid-Amateur Men's Open Stroke Play Championship

On the 22nd to 24th August 2008 Shifnal Golf Club hosted the English Men’s Open Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Championship in which players compete for the Logan Trophy. The competition is open to golfers over the age of 35 and is one of the country’s most prestigious amateur events.
The President of the EGU, Roy Case, along with George Logan himself were at Shifnal to present the Trophy. |

John Longcake (Silloth on Solway) scored 11 under par over 54 holes beating John Kemp (John O’Gaunt) by a single shot, just as he did in 2003 at Royal Birkdale.
Third place went to James Murphy (Shrigley Hall) who was a further 3 shots behind.
Local man Nigel Chesters (Hawkstone Park) finished a creditable 5th and Shifnal’s own Gary Huggett was in 45th place.
